Nobel Peace Prize Committee recognises authentic efforts for global harmony, rejecting Trump’s repeated claims to end conflicts from Russia–Ukraine to India–Pakistan and other international crises.
New Delhi, October 11, 2025:
Renowned peace activist and humanitarian Dr. K.A. Paul on Saturday praised the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for awarding the prize to a deserving individual, while dismissing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s self-promotional campaign for the honour. Dr. Paul emphasized that Trump repeatedly claimed he could resolve major global conflicts, including the Russia–Ukraine war and India–Pakistan tensions, yet these claims produced no meaningful results.
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Dr. Paul outlined several reasons why Trump was rightfully overlooked for the prestigious award. He commended the committee for prioritising genuine efforts that advance peace, reconciliation, and human dignity over political theatrics or personal ambition.
“The Nobel Peace Prize should honour those who work selflessly for global harmony, not those who seek it through publicity stunts,” Dr. Paul said. “I commend the committee for recognising a true peacemaker and not being swayed by Mr. Trump’s repeated claims to stop wars for personal gain.”
Dr. Paul, himself nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times (2003, 2005, 2006) by 17 countries but who declined to accept it, stressed that the award must reflect sustained efforts toward lasting global peace rather than individual ambition or self-promotion.
Key Reasons Trump Was Overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize
- Self-Promotion Over Merit – Unlike true peacemakers, who are nominated by others, Trump actively campaigned for the award, claiming he “deserves it.” The committee rejected such self-aggrandisement.
- Lobbying World Leaders – Trump reportedly pressured prime ministers and presidents for nominations, politicising the award. The committee correctly saw through this manipulation.
- Unfulfilled Promises on Global Conflicts – Trump claimed he could end the Russia–Ukraine war “within an hour” and mediate India–Pakistan tensions. Months later, conflicts persisted, showing the importance of tangible outcomes over rhetoric.
- Escalation in the Middle East – Targeted killings of Iranian leaders and military actions under Trump increased regional tensions, contrasting with the committee’s focus on leaders who de-escalate conflicts.
- Support for Gaza Blockade – Trump backed Israel’s blockade of Gaza, affecting over a million civilians. The committee’s decision reflects a commitment to human dignity over harmful policies.
- Proposal to Displace Palestinians – Trump suggested relocating millions of Palestinians to neighbouring countries, a destabilising plan violating human rights. The committee’s rejection of this idea upheld peace and justice.
- Broken Global Promises – Trump’s trade wars and rising international military tensions undermined his credibility as a peacemaker. The committee selected a recipient who promotes unity rather than division.
Concluding, Dr. Paul stated, “By recognising a genuine advocate for peace and rejecting Trump’s propaganda-driven claims, the Nobel Committee has sent a clear message: peace is measured by actions and compassion, not words or power. I salute their integrity and vision.”
