Journalism Meets Influence: MERI Hosts Workshop on Becoming a Social Media Influence

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the Management Education and Research Institute (MERI) College, Janakpuri, organized a special workshop on Monday titled “How to Become an Influencer @ MERI.” The session featured Senior Parliament TV journalist Ms. Namrata Singh as the chief speaker, who addressed the students.

Ms. Singh emphasized how social media has transformed the very definition of journalism. Today, not only the facts matter but also the way these facts are presented is equally important. She highlighted the essential values of consistency, patience, and fact-checking to maintain an effective presence on social media platforms.

Sharing practical tips for making content go viral on YouTube and other social platforms, she pointed out that hashtags, titles, and content play a significant role in a video’s success. According to her, the title must be not only catchy but also connected to trending topics. Content should be crafted to spark curiosity and engage viewers, encouraging interaction.

During the Q&A session at the end of the workshop, students asked numerous questions related to the role of social media influencers, which Ms. Singh addressed in detail.

The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Lalit Aggarwal, Vice-President of MERI Group of Institutions. The session began with Dr. S.K. Pandey, Head of Department, shedding light on the growing influence of social media personalities.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Deepshikha Kalra, Dean of MERI College. The event was also attended by the college advisor Prof. Rakesh Khurana and other faculty members, including Prof. Sadanand Pandey. The program was hosted by BA (JAMC) students Pritha Arora and Neha Saini.
