As military tensions rise along the India-Pakistan border, several Bollywood celebrities have spoken out in support of the Indian Armed Forces. Among them is actress Anushka Sharma, who recently made headlines after engaging with a viral social media post that praised army personnel as the true heroes of the nation.

The post, shared by a meme account on Instagram, read: “Days like these make you realise that Army men are the real heroes, not Bollywood celebrities and cricketers.” Anushka, who is married to cricketer Virat Kohli, quietly endorsed the sentiment by liking the post—signaling her agreement with its message.

In addition, Anushka took to her Instagram Story to personally thank the armed forces for their unwavering service. “Eternally grateful to our Indian Armed Forces for protecting us through these times like the heroes that they are,” she wrote. “Heartfelt gratitude to the sacrifices they and their families have made. Jai Hind.”

Anushka’s support stems from her own family background. Her father, Colonel (Retired) Ajay Kumar Sharma, served in the Indian Army for decades, participating in critical missions such as Operation Bluestar and the Kargil War. During the Kargil conflict in 1999, Anushka was just 11 years old.

In a 2012 interview with ETimes, she recalled those tense days, saying, “Kargil was a difficult time. I was quite young, but I remember my mother constantly glued to the news, becoming distressed with every casualty update.” She added, “More than being known as an actress, I take immense pride in being the daughter of an army officer.”

Professionally, Anushka has taken a step back from acting. Her last on-screen role was in Zero (2018) with Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. She has completed filming for her upcoming movie Chakda Xpress, a biopic on cricketer Jhulan Goswami, though the release date has not yet been announced.
