Calls for Equal Protection and Accountability Across Political Lines
New Delhi: The founder of the Praja Shanti Party, Dr. K. A. Paul, has alleged that constitutional institutions under the BJP government are being selectively deployed, posing a danger to democratic governance.
Referring to the NCW summoning actor Sivaji over remarks made in a public discussion, Dr Paul said the action was disproportionate and politically driven. “Sivaji appeared before the Commission and apologised. There was no intent to insult anyone. Yet he was targeted because he questioned the BJP government and spoke positively about Nehru and the Gandhi family,” he said.
Dr. Paul contrasted this with what he described as complete inaction in cases involving politically influential figures. Pointing to actor and BJP Alliance TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna, he alleged that despite objectionable and much worst remarks about women being made on a national platform, no women’s rights body intervened. “No summons, no apology, no accountability. Instead, silence and rewarded this year with Padma Bhushan , This shows how selectively the law is applied,” he said.
He also referred to a former BJP MLA Senger from Uttar Pradesh who was convicted in a rape case following a CBI investigation, alleging that repeated bail orders, despite the victim stating her life was under threat- highlight how the system protects the powerful while victims are left vulnerable. “Convicted offenders are repeatedly granted relief. Those who challenge the government are punished. This is not the rule of law,” Dr. Paul said.
According to Dr. Paul, such actions are steadily eroding public confidence in governance under the Bharatiya Janata Party. “Institutions meant to safeguard citizens are being used to silence dissent. This is weakening India’s democratic credibility and the economy both at home and abroad,” he said.
Raising concern over attacks on Christians in several parts of North India, including U. P. Chhattisgarh , Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Dr Paul said there was a clear disconnect between official assurances and ground reality. “People are being attacked simply for attending church. This violence is harming India’s social fabric, economy, and global image,” he added.
Dr. Paul urged the BJP government to act without bias. “Selective justice will cost the nation dearly. The government must protect every citizen equally and stop using institutions as political instruments,” he said.
Calling on citizens to recognise what he described as a “dangerous pattern,” Dr Paul said the issue goes far beyond individual cases. “This is about the direction the country is taking. He said, if citizens remain silent today, they will face the consequences tomorrow.
