Family members, disciples, and music lovers gathered today in Old Delhi to pay homage to the late Shri Heeralal Chaturvedi—affectionately known as ‘Guruji’—on his 48th death anniversary. Remembered as a guiding light for thousands of artists and a pillar of Delhi’s classical music tradition, Guruji’s legacy continues to resonate across the country.
Born in 1914 in Takha village, Bharatpur (Rajasthan), Shri Chaturvedi moved to Delhi where he devoted his life to the preservation and teaching of Indian classical music. Through the music school he founded, he nurtured generations of students from diverse backgrounds. Many of his disciples have since made their mark on national and international stages, carrying forward his musical heritage with pride.
Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, Editor of Rashtra Times and son of the late maestro, reflected on his father’s enduring influence: “Babuji’s legacy is not limited to music alone; it extends deeply into various facets of society.”
The anniversary was observed with a special program at Guruji’s music school, where students performed classical ragas as a tribute. The event served not only as a remembrance but also as a celebration of the values—humility, discipline, and devotion—that Guruji exemplified.
