Uproar Over Misconduct with Political Leader at Constitution Club: ₹2,500 Crore Legal Notice Served, Demand for Administrator Appointment

Lawyer representing Anshuman Joshi sends a legal notice, accuses Constitution Club of violating democratic and institutional decorum

New Delhi – An alleged incident of misconduct involving prominent political figure Anshuman Joshi at the Constitution Club of India has sparked significant controversy in both political and social circles. Representing Joshi, advocate Deepak Raj Singh has issued a stringent legal notice to the Club’s Governing Council, demanding ₹2,500 crore in damages and the appointment of an independent administrator to oversee the institution. The notice was officially issued on June 1, 2025.

According to the notice, Joshi visited the Club on May 29, 2025, to attend a formal meeting alongside Members of Parliament, senior political leaders, and business delegates. The meeting was reportedly organized by a sitting MP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vision of Development.” However, upon arrival, Joshi and his associates allegedly faced abusive and threatening behavior from the Club staff.

Staff Accused of Misconduct in Front of Dignitaries

The notice claims that during the meeting, several staff members—including Club Manager Sanjay Singh, Director Arvind Kumar, attendant staff, and Anil Kumar (a security guard assigned by Seminal Securities)—misbehaved with Joshi and his companions. They allegedly used aggressive language and issued threats in public, causing serious harm to Joshi’s public image and reputation.

Misbehavior Continued Despite Intervention from MPs

Despite repeated appeals from present Members of Parliament and other dignitaries urging the staff to act respectfully, the misconduct reportedly continued. The lawyer described the incident as a violation of democratic norms and institutional values, calling it a “systematic failure.”

Emotional Distress and Public Humiliation

The notice asserts that the incident inflicted significant emotional distress and publicly damaged Joshi’s personal and professional reputation. His legal counsel labeled the episode as an act of “serious defamation, mental harassment, and professional injury.”

Governance and Accountability of the Club Under Question

The legal document also questions the internal administration of the Constitution Club. It alleges that the incident reflects deeper systemic issues, such as abuse of power and lack of accountability within the institution. It calls for the immediate appointment of an independent administrator to restore transparency and accountability.

Seven-Day Deadline for Apology and Compensation

The Club has been given a seven-day deadline to issue a public apology to Joshi and pay the ₹2,500 crore in damages. Failing to meet these demands, the lawyer has warned of initiating both civil and criminal proceedings against the Club and its involved staff. Legal action will be pursued under BNSS 2023, tort law, and other relevant legal frameworks.

No Official Response from the Club Yet

As of now, the Constitution Club has not released an official statement regarding the matter. However, the controversy is gaining traction in political and legal circles. Questions are being raised about institutional accountability and whether such treatment of public figures has become commonplace. More than just a case of personal insult, this incident is being viewed as a critical test of institutional integrity and democratic values—and may continue to intensify in the coming days.
