With his white turban and proud to wear the Punjabi language and culture, Diljit made his way down the red carpet with a message that mattered so much more than fashion. Digging into his cultural interpretation of the aesthetics of Black Dandyism, he utilized a global platform to celebrate South Asian representation and give honour to his heritage.

A Bold Cultural Statement

After his performance, Diljit sent a sincere remark on social media, writing:

“Inspired by the theme of Black Dandyism, I bring my turban, my culture & my mother tongue ‘ਪੰਜਾਬੀ’ to the Met Gala.”

With the caption “MAIN HOON ਪੰਜਾਬੀ,” the singer-actor made it clear — this wasn’t just a fashion moment; it was a declaration of identity.

Fashion Meets Tradition

Diljit collaborated with an established designer, Prabal Gurung, that used traditional western tailoring with strong elements of Indian culture and heritage.
