MERI Hosts 20th National IT Seminar (APRENDEMOS-2025)

Experts Discuss AI’s Growing Role in Cybersecurity

New Delhi,With the rise in cyber threats in today’s digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a powerful tool in enhancing cybersecurity. Addressing this critical issue, the Management Education and Research Institute (MERI) organized the 20th National IT Seminar, APRENDEMOS-2025. The event brought together around 250 students, IT professionals, and academicians to discuss the evolving landscape of technology and security.

The seminar commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, a Saraswati Vandana, and the national anthem. In his opening address, MERI Vice President Prof. Lalit Agarwal emphasized AI’s transformative impact on cybersecurity. He highlighted the collective responsibility of ensuring digital security in an interconnected world.

Key Discussions on Cyber Threats and AI’s Role

The keynote speaker, Mr. Alok Vijayanti, Managing Director of Cyroit Technologies, shed light on the increasing complexity of cyber threats and how AI-driven solutions can counter them effectively. Mr. Jitendra Singh, Manager of Data Science at Publicis Sapient, spoke about security vulnerabilities, stressing the importance of encryption, access control, and AI-powered threat detection in safeguarding digital assets.

In the technical sessions, cybersecurity and insurance expert Mr. Suresh Kumar Sethi elaborated on cybercrimes such as phishing, ransomware, and software piracy. He also explained how cyber insurance can mitigate financial losses caused by cyberattacks.

Mr. Surya Pratap Singh, Director of Hacking Club and CEO of Azovi Infotech Services, conducted a live demonstration showing how cybercriminals use phishing, social media hacking, and malware to steal sensitive information. He provided practical tips on protecting personal data from such threats.

Panel Discussion and Interactive Learning

A panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Rakesh Khurana, Advisor at MERI, explored key cybersecurity challenges. Panelists included Mr. Sougata Pramanik, a cloud computing expert; Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar, a cybersecurity officer; and Dr. Shareen Zafar, Assistant Professor at Jamia Hamdard University. Dr. Zafar explained AI’s role in cybersecurity research, while SI Manoj Kumar emphasized the need for awareness and vigilance to prevent online fraud.

The seminar also featured an inter-college IT quiz, where students tested their technical knowledge and gained insights into the latest advancements in cybersecurity. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognizing the contributions of speakers, participants, and organizers.

APRENDEMOS-2025 successfully highlighted the crucial role of AI in strengthening cybersecurity, equipping attendees with knowledge and strategies to tackle digital threats in an increasingly connected world.
