Enough is Enough: India Blocks 16 Pakistani YouTubers for Poisoning Minds After Terror Attack

April 28, 2025

In a notable effort against disinformation, India has blocked 16 Pakistani Youtube channels that were spreading disinformation narratives and stoking tensions in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Officials cited the need for such actions in defense of national security and to prevent misinformation which could incite civil unrest.

List of Banned Channels

Many of Pakistan’s top media outlets, including Dawn News, ARY News, Bol News, Geo News, and GNN, are among the prohibited networks. The list also includes a number of individual creators such as Irshad Bhatti, Asma Shirazi, and Muneeb Farooq — and smaller content creators such as Samaa Sports and Uzair Cricket. The authorities accused these channels to actively misrepresent facts and maim the audiences in a corrupt manner.

The Reason Behind the Ban

As per official sources, these channels were convicted for violating India’s Indian Penal Code for disseminating false stories, publishing misleading imagery, and propagate anti-India narratives after the Pahalgam terror attack. Those content misled viewers and try to foment discord and conflict among communities. The government reaffirmed their desire to protect the digital space of India from international subversion and propaganda.

India’s Firm Stance on Digital Sovereignty

This is a demonstration of India’s awareness of the role of digital platforms and an effort to hold content developers responsible. While officials said they respect the freedom of expression, they will not respect the intentional spread of false news especially during a period of national emergency.

This action has been welcomed domestically with many people supporting the efforts of government to protect national interests from harmful misuse of social media platforms.
