In a moving display of support and compassion, Guru Kashi University (GKU) has decided to provide full educational support to children who lost their parents in the Monday (Paragliding) terror attack at Pahalgam, Kashmir. The incident has led to the unfortunate death of 26 innocent civilians, and has left many across the nation grieving and condemning this heinous act of violence.
The Chancellor of the university, S. Gurlabh Singh Sidhu, said he was saddened by the incident and pledged GKU’s support to families affected by the incident. In a statement issued to the public on Wednesday, Chancellor Sidhu condemned the attack as a crime against humanity and a tragedy that reverberates beyond Kashmir.
“The loss of innocent lives in Pahalgam is not just a tragedy for Kashmir—it is a wound felt across the entire nation,” said Chancellor Sidhu. “As an institution committed to education and social service, Guru Kashi University will take full responsibility for the education of the orphaned children. Along with the university’s humanitarian effort, Sidhu also directly reaffirmed the Indian government’s anti-terrorism efforts and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in combating terrorism and promoting national unity.
“We stand firmly with the government of India. Terrorists seek to divide our society, but we must respond with unity and compassion. As educators and citizens, it is our duty to build bridges and provide hope—not let hatred prevail,” he added.
Guru Kashi University also expressed its condolences to the distinct families, and solidarity with the people of Kashmir, acknowledging the people of Kashmir’s ongoing resilience and persisting harmony after the continued and repeated attempts by violent thugs to destabilize the region.
The university has also called upon educational institutions across the country, and civil society to emerge and help bring healing and rebuilding. GKU reiterated its continuing commitment to nation-building, social justice, and education as restorative and empowering processes.
This effort sends an unequivocal message that education and empathy, not hate and violence, are the appropriate response.
