HRDS India has lodged a formal complaint with the Lodhi Colony Police Station in New Delhi against businessman and Congress leader Robert Vadra. The complaint, which was submitted by HRDS India Secretary Mr. Aji Krishnan, claims that Vadra made an anti-national statement trying to justify the horrific massacre committed by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, 2025.
This deplorable act resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent civilians and was not something that was taken lightly by the country and entire nation. There was outcry from all around the world condemning the pointed act; however, Robert Vadra, allegedly, expressed at least some sentiments that concluded the attack was some form of deflection from the alleged feelings of insecurity that Muslims were feeling in India. Vadra asserted “the attack was a message to the Prime Minister.” Vadra suggested not only that the act of terrorism was a response to communal conditions in the country but that the terrorism was also derived from the Prime Minister’s policies.
The HRDS India finds this kind of statement very provocative and unsafe. The complaint noted that Vadra’s remarks seemed to justify the killing of civilians, and presented terrorists as taking revenge for domestic matters. He had allegedly said – “This government only talks about Hindutva. It does a survey of mosques and pokes its nose into religious affairs. The attackers attacked people because of their religion. The reason for this is because of the divide of Hindus and Muslims in this country. Killing people based on their religion is a message to the Prime Minister. This is because Muslims feel unsafe in this country. Minorities feel they are weak in this country.”
The organization thinks that this kind of commentary is tantamount to endorsing terrorism, inciting fear, and promoting inter-communal discord. Vadra has also apparently used examples such as oppressed Muslims in India, limited prayers, not allowed loudspeakers on the roofs of mosques, enforced curbs on gathering especially close to the Jama Masjid in Delhi, and claimed India is not secular now but ruled by religious politics. These reasons, he said, can be factors that may have contributed to the terrorist attack.
HRDS India is unequivocally against the narrative, which can only be seen as an implicit endorsement of violence, and a serious attempt to undermine peace. With the country busy grieving the dead and seeking justice, such remarks only seek to divide society and strengthen our enemies.
The organization has demanded that the authorities take strict legal action against Robert Vadra under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, alleging his purported efforts to propagate terrorism and instigate communal violence.
HRDS India reaffirms its commitment to national unity and calls upon all citizens, public figures and authorities to cooperate in the cause of peace, justice, and national unity.
