One-day state championship sees 110 para powerlifters compete across senior, junior and sub-junior divisions, highlighting Delhi’s growing strength in inclusive and competitive para sports.

The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi (DPSA) successfully conducted the Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday, bringing together 110 para-athletes from across the national capital for a day of high-intensity competition.
The event marked the third senior and second junior and sub-junior editions of the state championship. Recognised by the Government of Delhi and affiliated with the Paralympic Committee of India, DPSA organised the competition to build a strong, structured pathway for para powerlifters and prepare them for national and international platforms.
The championship was inaugurated by Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who attended as the chief guest, along with Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police.
Addressing athletes and officials, Dr. Menon highlighted the importance of discipline, consistency and determination in sports. He said para-athletes exemplify the power of resilience by turning challenges into opportunities, adding that initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India are creating inclusive platforms for talent from all sections of society.

Special Commissioner Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, congratulated the participants for their dedication and courage, encouraging them to aim for excellence at higher competitive levels and represent the country with pride.
The championship featured closely fought contests in senior women’s, senior men’s, and junior and sub-junior men’s categories, with athletes displaying remarkable strength and technique across weight divisions.
Speaking at the conclusion of the event, DPSA President Parul Singh said the championship reaffirmed the association’s commitment to providing an athlete-focused, transparent and competitive environment for para sports in Delhi. She noted that regular state-level tournaments are vital for identifying emerging talent and ensuring sustained athlete development.
