Despite DNA Evidence and Confession, Justice Remains Elusive

At a press conference held at the Mumbai Press Club, the long-unresolved murder case of renowned obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Asha Goyal was brought back into the spotlight. It has been 21 years since Dr. Goyal was brutally murdered in Mumbai on August 22, 2003, yet justice remains elusive. Her daughter, Rashmi Goyal, has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to intervene and expedite the long-pending case.

The Goyal family has been fighting for justice for over two decades, but despite strong evidence—including DNA reports, forensic findings, and even the suspect’s confession—the case has remained stagnant. This prolonged delay has not only caused immense emotional distress to the family but has also raised serious concerns about the efficiency of India’s judicial system.

Addressing the press conference, Rashmi Goyal expressed her frustration, stating, “We have waited far too long, and our patience is wearing thin. My mother dedicated her life to healing others, yet justice for her brutal murder remains out of reach. We urge the Chief Minister to take immediate action. India cannot be a country where criminals escape justice despite overwhelming evidence.”

Dr. Asha Goyal was born in Mathura in 1940. After completing her medical education in Mumbai, she established a distinguished career in Canada, earning global recognition for her contributions to women’s healthcare. Her tragic murder shocked both India and Canada, yet her killers continue to evade justice.

The conference emphasized that this delay is not just a personal tragedy for the Goyal family but a serious indictment of India’s legal system. The family remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice, vowing to fight until the perpetrators are held accountable.
